Overview
New London Engineering SteelTrak hinged steel belt conveyors carry virtually any type of metal parts or scrap, and are ideally suited for carrying hot, oily parts from punch presses and forging machines to drums or hoppers. The line runs from the 1-1/2" pitch Model 715 for very fine chips and turnings to the 6" pitch Model 760 for extreme heavy-duty steel and scrap, in horizontal, Z (type 3) and L (type 4) configurations. PRI supplies the full SteelTrak line.
Key Features
- Four belt pitches
- 1-1/2" mini pitch on the 715/716, 2-1/2" pitch on the 720 through 727, 4" pitch on the 750/751 and 6" pitch on the 760.
- Frames sized to the space
- The 722/726 gives SteelTrak features where space is limited, with a 6-5/8" frame vs. 8-1/2" on the 721. The 715 frame is 4-1/8" deep at the infeed, and the 727 has a tapered-depth infeed designed to fit inside or under an existing machine.
- Radial side wings
- Radial side wings give the best fit to prevent material pinching. NLE's interlocking design virtually eliminates the gap between wings in the curve, where small parts tend to jam.
- TruTrak flanged rollers
- Flanged rollers stop side-to-side movement of the belt in its track, so it cannot rub the frame, virtually eliminating wear to the frame, belt axles, sidewings and cotter pins. NLE recommends them for long-run, heavy-load applications and where preventing downtime is a priority.
- Steel belt choices
- Six steel belt options, including conventional or flat top hinges and plain, pimpled or perforated belts. Perforated belts have 5/32" holes that drain 20 GPM per sq. ft. of water-based liquid back to the tank.
- Options for chips, heat and coolant
- Liquid-tight bottom pans, drain holes and plugs, quench tanks, top covers with chip suppressors, impact bars, and heat-dissipating bars recommended when parts are above 300°F.

- Models 722/726 (2-1/2" pitch) – SteelTrak features where space is limited, for light to medium industrial applications and small scrap (NLE lists scrap under 1/4" x 1/4"). 6" to 36" standard widths, 6-5/8" deep formed 12 ga frame, one-piece apron, 5-tooth x 4.25" PD sprockets, 1" side wings, 1/2 HP. The 726 has liquid-tight bottom pans.
- Model 727 (2-1/2" pitch) – NLE's tapered-infeed cold header conveyor, designed to fit inside or under an existing machine. 6" to 36" standard widths, 6-5/8" deep formed 12 ga frame, semi-rounded infeed, 1-3/16" drive shaft, marine bearings at the infeed, 5-tooth x 4.25" PD sprockets, 1" side wings, 1/2 HP.
- Models 750/751 (4" pitch) – Heavy-duty industrial metal handling, heavier scrap and high volumes. 12", 18", 24", 30", 36", 48" and 60" wide (custom widths available), 15-1/4" deep formed 10 ga frame, 6-tooth x 8" PD sprockets, 2-3/8" cleats on 24" centers, 3" side wings, 1-3/4" hardened flanged rollers, outside sidebars, 1/2" axles with impact tube, 1/2 HP. Applications & Benefits
- Press rooms: Carrying hot, oily parts and scrap from punch presses to drums or hoppers. NLE also lists hinged steel belts for taking parts off turret presses.
- Forging and cold heading: Hot parts from forging machines. The Model 727 is NLE's cold header conveyor, designed to fit into an existing machine.
- Chips and turnings: The 1-1/2" pitch Model 715 handles very fine chips and turnings where a 2-1/2" pitch machine will not fit.
- Fastener production: Steel chip and fastener applications. Flat top belts are often used to convey small objects such as fasteners or screws.
- Heavy scrap: The 750/751 handles heavier scrap in high volumes, and the 760 is built for extreme heavy-duty steel and scrap.
How to Choose the Right SteelTrak Conveyor
- Match the pitch to the material: 1-1/2" (715/716) for very fine chips, 2-1/2" (720 through 727) for general parts and scrap, 4" (750/751) for heavier scrap and 6" (760) for extreme heavy duty.
- Check frame depth and cleat height. NLE notes a deeper frame adds strength for longer runs and heavier loads and room for taller cleats, and a taller cleat moves more product up steeper inclines.
- Measure the space at the infeed: 4-1/8" on the 715, 6-5/8" on the 722/726 and 8-1/2" on the 721, or the 727 tapered infeed to fit inside or under a machine.
- Choose liquid-tight bottom pans (723, 724, 726) when oil or coolant must drain to a tank. The 716 is the non-liquid-tight 715.
- Pick the layout: horizontal, Z (type 3) or L (type 4), with 30°, 45° or 60° inclines, and a top-mount or side-mount drive where overhead clearance is limited.
- Select belt options: conventional or flat top, plain, pimpled or perforated, and radial side wings where small parts may jam.
Why SteelTrak Conveyors Are Trusted
- Built for long-term, low-maintenance operation: NLE designs SteelTrak for industrial, scrap, steel chip and fastener applications.
- Less frame and belt wear: TruTrak flanged rollers keep the belt from rubbing the frame, virtually eliminating wear to the frame, axles, sidewings and cotter pins.
- Quality conveyors since 1948: New London Engineering, of New London, Wisconsin, describes its conveyors as American made and American engineered.
