Overview

The patented PAX Low Profile Conveyor is built for on-bolster, under-die part and scrap removal. It measures just 3/8" from the bottom of the tray to the top of the belt and needs only 2" to 2.5" of height to install, so it fits where many conveyors will not. PAX developed it in its own stamping facility to withstand harsh stamping environments. PRI supplies PAX Low Profile conveyors in the width, length, drive arrangement and options the die calls for.

Key Features

  • Extreme low profile
    • Just 3/8" from the bottom of the tray to the top of the belt, and only 1.25" from the press bolster to the top of the conveyor sides. Installation takes 2.5" of height with the standard tension end, or 2" with the flush mount tension end.
  • Motor sits on the bolster
    • The standard top drive is designed to sit on the bolster inside the bed area of the press. It can often be positioned within existing guarding, so no extra guarding is needed.
  • Protected belt edges
    • The tray sides extend over the belt edges to keep scrap from getting beneath the belt, which extends belt life and reduces maintenance.
  • Resistant to die lube
    • Critical areas are sealed to keep die lube out, the terminal box is sealed with custom gaskets, and the conveyor can be washed down between uses.
  • Built-in jam detection
    • Maximum weight on the conveyor is under 20 lb. To detect material jams, the conveyor is designed to stop when the weight exceeds 20 lb.
  • Five-minute belt changes
    • The standard woven polyester PVC belt is joined with stainless steel lacing and pin and can be changed in less than 5 minutes.

Product Line / Models

PAX Low Profile conveyors are built from standard drive arrangements, widths and lengths:

  • Standard Top Drive – The motor sits directly on the press bolster and can often be positioned within existing guarding. Material is conveyed away from the motor.
  • Inverted Drive – The motor hangs below the conveyor tray. Material can be conveyed toward or away from the motor.
  • Extended Top Drive – The motor is mounted above the conveyor tray. Material can be conveyed toward (and under) or away from the motor.
  • Right Angle Drive – The motor is mounted to the side of the conveyor tray. Material can be conveyed toward or away from the motor.
  • Widths – Nominal 4" to 20" (4", 5", 6", 7", 8", 9", 10", 12", 14", 16", 18" and 20"), with belt widths from 2.35" to 18.35". The 4" and 5" widths include an outrigger for stability.
  • Lengths and speeds – Standard lengths of 48", 60", 72", 84" and 96"; custom lengths from 36" to 120". Fixed belt speeds of 27, 32, 37, 43, 51, 55, 65, 75, 87 or 103 FPM, with an optional variable-speed motor and control.

Applications & Benefits

  • Under-die part and scrap removal: The conveyor sits on the bolster under the die and carries parts and scrap out of the die area.
  • Small slugs: The optional self-adjusting belt wiper greatly reduces the chance of small slugs getting between the belt and tray.
  • Die-end removal: The flush mount tension end lays flat on the bolster for applications where the conveyor cannot be inserted completely through the die.
  • Die protection: The optional stopped belt sensor ties into the press die protection circuit so the press can stop if the belt stops.
  • Die lube environments: Sealed critical areas and a gasketed terminal box keep die lube out.

How to Choose the Right PAX Low Profile Conveyor

  1. Measure the height available under the die: 2.5" for the standard tension end, or 2" for the flush mount tension end.
  2. Pick the belt width, from nominal 4" to 20", and the length: 48" to 96" standard, or custom from 36" to 120".
  3. Choose the drive arrangement and conveying direction. The flush mount tension end requires belt travel toward the motor and is not available with the standard top drive.
  4. Choose a fixed belt speed from 27 to 103 FPM, or the variable-speed option.
  5. Add options as needed: stopped belt sensor, self-adjusting belt wiper, 2-ply monofilament urethane belt, side rail extensions, U-shaped trays with side wipers, lube collection pan, toe clamps and adjustable support stands.

Why PAX Low Profile Conveyors Are Trusted

  • Designed for stampers by stampers: PAX developed the Low Profile Conveyor in its own stamping facility, and it is designed by PAX tool and die craftsmen.
  • Patented design: Covered by U.S. Patents 5,904,240 and 6,186,318.
  • Built for the press room: Belt edges protected by the tray, critical areas sealed against die lube, and an optional belt that typically lasts 3 to 4 times longer than the standard belt.
