Product Gallery & Description

Engineered for High‑Strength Steel, Precision Coil Processing, and Long‑Life Performance

Colt Automation straighteners are built for demanding coil processing environments where accuracy, durability, and uptime matter. With models ranging from light‑duty to extra heavy‑duty, Colt delivers consistent straightening performance across widths from 6" to 84" and material types including AHSS, HSLA, dual‑phase, coated, perforated, and marking‑sensitive stock.

Overview

Colt straighteners are designed around a rugged mechanical foundation and advanced control technology. Every model shares a common engineering philosophy: maximize roll rigidity, minimize deflection, and maintain stable, repeatable material flow.

Core construction features include:

  • Solid, heavy‑wall frame design
  • Full outboard roll support for all straightener rolls
  • 52100 aviation‑grade roll steel hardened to RC 60/64
  • Large roll journals and hardened, zero‑backlash gears
  • Entry and exit pinch rolls with counterbalanced “weightless” adjustment
  • Satin or chrome‑flash roll finishes available
  • Absolute encoders on each straightener roll
  • Catenary support and material detection sensors
  • Bauer motors with long service life (up to 40 years)

These design elements ensure stable processing of thin, delicate materials as well as high‑strength steels with minimal roll deformation.

Technology & Automation

Colt integrates modern drive and control systems to improve line efficiency and reduce wear:

  • Variable Frequency Drives with Ethernet/IP for seamless communication
  • Laser loop sensor integration enabling constant‑speed operation
  • Reduced start/stop cycling, extending drive component life
  • Optional full automation for complete feed‑line integration

Engineering Advantages

Colt’s straighteners are built to withstand the stresses of modern high‑strength materials. Their design includes:

  • Wider side plates for rigidity
  • Larger roll journals for stability
  • Hardened gears and dual‑drive options
  • Flash‑chromed pinch rolls for maximum traction
  • Generous service factors to prevent roll deformation
  • Large‑radius machined transitions to reduce fatigue and shear points

This results in longer equipment life, reduced downtime, and consistent straightening quality

Benefits & Options

  • Full automation options for complete feed‑line integration
  • Stronger construction for reduced maintenance
  • Multiple roll configurations (7–13+)
  • Processing range from .020" to over .600"

Material Compatibility

Colt straighteners are suitable for:

  • AHSS (Advanced High‑Strength Steel)
  • HSLA (High‑Strength Low‑Alloy)
  • Dual‑Phase Steels
  • Cold‑Rolled Steel
  • Coated, painted, perforated, and sensitive materials
