Overview
MPI AutoMag is a fully automatic, self-cleaning magnetic filter for cutting fluids, coolants, oils and wash water. Rare-earth magnetic cores capture ferrous and paramagnetic particles down to sub-micron size. An air-operated purge cleans the cores with no operator, so it can run 24/7 with no cartridges or bags to replace.
Key Features
- Self-cleaning purge cycle
- A signal from your control system starts the purge. A pneumatic cylinder withdraws the magnetic cores and the debris is flushed out, typically in 10 to 15 seconds.
- Dual Flow Technology
- Fluid gets primary filtration in the inlet chamber, then slows in a second chamber for final filtration before returning to the process.
- Not particle-size sensitive
- Unlike mesh filters, it captures any magnetic particle, down to sub-micron size.
- Rare-earth magnets
- N45-grade neodymium-iron-boron cores reach up to 9,000 gauss on the tube surface, depending on model.
- No consumables, low air use
- There are no filter cartridges or media to buy, and it runs on a low volume of compressed air.
- No fluid loss or backpressure
- Debris leaves as a dry cake, and the filter adds no line pressure or backpressure.
- Stainless steel body
- The filter body and cover are 304 stainless steel, rated to 10 bar (about 145 psi) and 5 to 70 °C (41 to 158 °F).
Product Line / Models
MPI offers AutoMag in these configurations and options:
- Standard AutoMag unit – installed inline in the process, or offline in a separate filtration loop.
- Simple timer control box – runs purge cycles on a timer.
- Pre-programmed PLC controls – full automation with advanced process control and remote monitoring.
- Mounting skid – pre-mounted and pre-plumbed for plug-and-play installation.
- Purge fluid collection tank and reclaim system – collects purged debris and recovers fluid.
- Multi-unit and super-high-flow systems – units grouped together for higher flow and heavier contamination.
Applications & Benefits
- Grinding, honing and tapping: Clean fluid at the cutting face improves surface finish and reduces scrap and inspection time.
- CNC machines and drill heads: Stops metal debris from recirculating and wearing pumps, gears, slideways and valves.
- Industrial parts washing: Keeps wash systems clean, including vehicle pre-paint body wash stations.
- Quenching and pump protection: Removes ferrous particles before they reach pumps and process equipment.
- Continuous production: Runs around the clock without operator intervention.
How to Choose the Right MPI AutoMag System
- Work out the total flow rate and how heavy the contamination is. High loads may need more than one unit.
- Identify the fluid: oil, water-based coolant or wash water.
- Decide on inline (in-process) or offline (separate loop) installation.
- Plan the purge. An outlet valve is required but not included, plus a purge tank or reclaim unit.
- Choose controls: a simple timer box or pre-programmed PLC tied to your control system.
- Check operating pressure and temperature against the 10 bar and 5 to 70 °C ratings.
Why MPI AutoMag Filters Are Trusted
- No consumables: No cartridges, bags or media to buy or dispose of.
- Operator-free: Purging is automatic, so filtration continues without shutdowns.
- Protects equipment: Clean fluid reduces abrasive wear on pumps, grinding wheels and cutting tools.
