Overview
MPI Permanent Lifting Magnets hang from a hoist or crane and lift flat and round steel with no power supply. High-energy neodymium magnets are switched on and off with a one-hand lever. Six models carry working load limits from 330 to 4,409 lb on flat material and 143 to 2,204 lb on round material, at a 3:1 safety factor.
Key Features
- No power required
- Permanent neodymium magnets hold the load with no electricity or batteries, so the lifter keeps holding if power is lost.
- One-hand Easy-Switch
- The Easy-Switch lever turns the magnet on and off with one hand. A safety latch keeps it from being switched off by accident during a lift.
- 3:1 safety factor, tested
- Every lifter is individually tested to its load specification, and the results are recorded by serial number. The tear-off test uses an air gap to simulate real operating conditions.
- Flat and round stock
- Each model has separate working load limits for flat plate and for round bar, pipe and tube, with a stated diameter range.
- Welded construction
- A stainless steel lifting eye is welded to the body. The only fasteners are two recessed handle screws, and none of them carry the load.
- Five-year warranty
- MPI covers the magnetic system for five years. The lifters meet ANSI/ASME B30.20, and MPI offers an annual re-certification service.

- PCM-GP250 Permanent Crane Magnet – for sheet and plate. 7.8 x 11.3 x 1.6 in., 21.5 lb. Horizontal limit 551 lb, vertical limit 176 lb, 4:1 safety factor. Handles single sheets from 0.12 in. thick and tilts them between horizontal and vertical.
Applications & Benefits
- Plate and sheet: Lifts flat plate, sheet and blanks in fabrication shops, weld booths and steel service centers.
- Round bar, pipe and tube: Each model is rated for round material within its stated diameter range.
- Tool room die handling: Used with a hoist for die handling and die separation, and for moving steel workpieces and tools.
- Profiles and structural sections: Handles profiled sections, beams and semi-finished steel in warehouses and on job sites.
- Tilting sheets: The PCM-GP250 turns sheets and plates from horizontal to vertical and back.
How to Choose the Right MPI Permanent Lifting Magnet
- Find the heaviest load you will lift and pick a model whose working load limit covers it. The limits already include the 3:1 safety factor.
- For round bar, pipe or tube, use the round rating (about half the flat rating) and check that the diameter falls within the model's range.
- Check material thickness and surface finish. MPI rates capacity by size and surface finish, and thin or rough material holds less.
- Keep the working temperature at or below 176°F (80°C).
- For single sheets or tilting plates between horizontal and vertical, look at the PCM-GP250 Permanent Crane Magnet.
- Ask about options: adjustable pole shoes, safety lock handles, custom lifting eyes, carrying cases and test certificates.
Why MPI Permanent Lifting Magnets Are Trusted
- Tested one by one: Each lifter is load tested with an air gap, and the result is recorded by serial number.
- Built to the standard: The lifters meet ANSI/ASME B30.20 for below-the-hook lifting devices.
- Backed by MPI: A five-year warranty on the magnetic system, plus annual re-certification service from MPI.
