MPI Electric Shaker Conveyors

Overview

MPI electric shaker conveyors, from Magnetic Products, Inc. (MPI) of Highland, Michigan, clear slugs and trim scrap from under the die on stamping presses. The press-mounted M-10, M-50 and M-200 lock into the bolster T-slots and drive a crossbar-and-pan system from a standard 110V plug, while the floor-mounted M-10000 Series carries scrap long distances to a central collection point. Product Line / Models

MPI offers four electric shaker series, sized by crossbar width and scrap volume:

• M-10 – compact drive for smaller presses using up to an 18-inch crossbar.
• M-50 – medium-sized presses with up to a 36-inch crossbar; speed is factory preset.
• M-200 Rack and Pinion – medium to large presses; the rack and pinion evens out lopsided pan loads.
• M-10000 Series – floor-mounted, high-capacity conveyor for underground and central scrap systems.

M-10 Electric Scrap Shaker

The smallest drive in the line has a heavy-duty steel build yet is light enough to carry by hand. The M-10-18 system comes with an 18-inch crossbar and is rated for 10 lb of pans and scrap combined.

M-50 Electric Scrap Shaker

The M-50 doubles the crossbar to 36 inches and carries 50 lb of pans and scrap. MPI often pairs it with a steel belt conveyor, beltless magnetic conveyor or underground shaker to build a complete scrap line.

M-200 Rack and Pinion Electric Scrap Shaker

The M-200 handles 200 lb of pans and scrap on crossbars from 48 to 180 inches; sizes from 72 inches up include the rack and pinion. The drive is built from 1-inch-thick billet aluminum. An optional height-adjustable cart lets the crew roll the system between presses without a forklift.

M-10000 Series Floor-Mounted Shaker

The M-10000 moves more than 10,000 lb of scrap per hour over runs of hundreds of feet, using one continuous steel pan and a single drive scaled up from the M-series design. Grease-free Rubber Suspension Technology (RST) bearings carry the pan, and MPI supports each system from site assessment through installation.

MPI rates the M-50 and M-200 at a 20 ft/min conveying speed. Key M-10000 Series values:

• Maximum design speed: 15 ft/min, with slower speeds available
• Assembled pan length: up to 250 ft with a 24-in. pan, or 200 ft with a 36-in. pan
• Standard pans: troughed, 24 or 36 in. wide by 6 or 12 in. deep; or rectangular, 24 or 36 in. wide with 6-in. side guides
• Pan material: 10-gauge carbon steel (standard), 10-gauge stainless, 7-gauge manganese steel, or carbon steel with a replaceable rigidized, AR or composite liner

How to Choose the Right MPI Electric Shaker

1. Crossbar width: 18 in. (M-10), 36 in. (M-50) or 48 to 180 in. (M-200).
2. Load: pan weight plus scrap weight against the 10, 50 or 200 lb design capacity.
3. Pan balance: MPI recommends balanced loads on the M-10 and M-50; uneven layouts call for the M-200.
4. Bolster T-slots: confirm slot size against the mounts supplied.
5. Changeover: one bracket set per pan, plus a cart if an M-200 moves between presses.
6. Scrap destination: a hopper or downstream conveyor, or a plant-wide M-10000 system.
7. Oil and wear: rigidized pans for oily parts; wear pad kits where pans ride on the bolster.
